J&R Machine reduces the high cost of grinding to achieve size and finish after heat treating. In this picture we are hard turning a gear shaft . The shaft in this condition is heat treated to 64Rc with a case depth of.025-.035. It is finished to a tolerance of .0005 and a 16 micro finish. The hard turning process at J&R not only reduces lead time to customer, it provides a precision finished surface at a fraction of the cost of grinding.
