J&R Machine’s local food pantry, Shawano Area Food Pantry and Resource Center (SAFPARC), feeds around 450 area families every Thanksgiving. The families receiving assistance from the pantry for their weekly needs are not in a position to spend extra funds for holiday meals. Aware of this need, we sought to provide a vehicle for our employees to donate food to ensure members of our community have the opportunity to host a homemade holiday meal for their children, family, or friends with dignity.
This Thanksgiving Food Drive was the first food drive J&R Machine has hosted, and we were incredibly humbled by the response. We set a goal to feed 5-10 families, but our team of 30 employees donated enough to feed more than 15 families. J&R Machine also donated 15 turkeys to pair with all the side dishes and desserts donated by employees.
“We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the J&R Machine family for answering the call to give to others,” says Tim Tumanic, President of J&R Machine. “We are absolutely blown away by their generosity.”
So what’s on the menu? J&R Machine will be providing SAFPARC with turkeys and ingredients to make green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, and pumpkin pie.
Hosting the food drive was simple. To spread the word to employees, flyers were placed in J&R Machine’s breakroom, and information about the event was posted within our organization’s SharePoint.
“Many soup kitchens and food pantries have difficulty keeping up with demand this time of the year,” says Tumanic. “We encourage all companies, regardless of size or industry, to consider hosting their own food drive this holiday season!”
